Acceptable Use Policy

The rules for using the WeatherLabs API and website fairly. This policy forms part of our Terms of Service.

Last updated: 12 June 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) sets out what you may and may not do when using the WeatherLabs API and website. It exists to keep the Service fast, fair and available for everyone. It forms part of, and is governed by, our Terms of Service; capitalised terms have the meanings given there.

You must not

  • Circumvent quotas, rate limits or metering. Do not attempt to bypass, reset or under-report your usage. This includes sharing an API key across different organisations, and creating multiple free accounts to aggregate quota or otherwise obtain more than your Plan allows.
  • Resell or bulk-redistribute raw responses. Do not redistribute, republish or resell the raw API responses (or a substantial extract of them) as a standalone or competing dataset, data feed or weather API. Building your own application or product on top of the Data is fine; re-exposing our Data as the product is not. (See the API & data licence in the Terms.)
  • Misuse the demo/explorer key. The public Explorer and Playground use a shared demo key with its own limits, for trying the Service. Do not scrape, extract or reuse that demo key for production or automated use — get your own free key instead.
  • Generate abusive request patterns. Do not send sustained load far above fair-use rates, run uncontrolled or runaway clients, or otherwise place an unreasonable burden on the Service or attempt to degrade it for others.
  • Perform security testing without permission. Do not probe, scan, penetration-test or attempt to breach the Service or its infrastructure without our prior written permission. (To report a vulnerability responsibly, contact us.)
  • Use the Service unlawfully. Do not use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation, to infringe others' rights, or in connection with any unlawful, harmful or fraudulent activity.

Fair use

Even within your Plan's data quota, access is subject to reasonable rate limits to protect the Service. Normal interactive and integration use is fine; automated workloads should be smoothed to a steady rate rather than bursting at the maximum. Documented fair-use rates are published in the API documentation. If you expect unusually high or spiky volumes, contact us and we will help you find the right Plan.

Enforcement

If you breach this AUP, we may throttle, suspend or terminate your access, in whole or in part. Where practicable we will give you notice and an opportunity to put things right first, but we may act immediately where necessary to protect the Service, other users, or to comply with the law. Suspension does not entitle you to a refund where the suspension results from your breach.

To report abuse, misuse of a key, or a suspected security issue, email contact@weatherlabs.io. Please include enough detail for us to investigate.
